''The Sileby Slappers''

Julie Wright leads "The Sileby Slappers" - a small group of enthusiastic adults who study and perform traditional West African drumming, meeting for weekly rehearsals in Sileby.  There are three main sounds in West African drumming - bass, tone and slap.  When Julie moved here 7 years ago, she couldn't resist giving her group its current name.

The Slappers (as they call themselves) look forward to performing at the gala, between 2-3pm, and will be joined by some of Julie's other students for a larger group piece at the end of their set.  This group will include children from schools in Birstall and Anstey, where Julie teaches regularly, as well as students from a group who meet in Melton at Sage Cross Church from time to time.

For more information about Julie and her work, please visit
www.juliewrightpercussion.co.uk. She is always open to working in new schools and communities, and would be happy to set up a beginners group in Sileby if there's enough interest.

Have your say!

All monies raised from the Gala will be used to help local youth groups within the village. To help us identify groups that could benefit, here is your chance to recommend a local youth group and tell us why a donation would help them?

Gala Memories

Most people I speak to from the village have a story or two from past Gala's. We would like to share some of these stories but need your help.

Tell us about your childhood or family memories of the Gala by
e-mailing them to silebygala2014@gmail.com

Want to have a stall?

If you would like to showcase your talent or goods locally, what better way than having a stall at the Gala?

Our aim for the day is to bring the community together and raise money for local youth groups. To help us achieve this there will be a small fee of £10.00 per stall plot.

You will need to bring your own table, chairs and gazebo (depending on the weather).

If you would like a stand please call Gill Brown 01509 816545 or e-mail silebygala2014@gmail.com
